The Lagos State University (LASU) is a University of the State of Lagos of Nigeria . It is located in the administrative district of Ojo and was founded in 1983. With around 90,885 students, LASU is Nigeria's largest university today, larger than the city's old state university, the University of Lagos . The very low tutor-to-student ratio is 1: 114, i.e. one teacher for every 114 students. In addition to the teaching staff of 577 teachers, LASU also had 1,867 non-teaching staff in 2011.

The LASU owes its establishment to a law to promote education in Lagos State, which was passed by the Governor of Lagos on April 22, 1983. It was set up primarily to meet the needs of technology and science professionals in the State of Lagos after the abandonment of the idea of developing the Lagos College of Technology and Sciences into a university. In the meantime, however, it also has faculties for law, medicine and social sciences.
