The Laguna del Carbón is a salt lake in the endorheic San Julian Basin in South America . The basin is located in the Argentine province of Santa Cruz , around 54 km from Puerto San Julián .
With a height of 105 meters below sea level, it is the deepest depression on the American double continent , at the same time the deepest depression in the southern hemisphere and the seventh deepest point on land in the world.
