Laiuse
Laiuse (German: Lais ) is an Estonian village in the rural municipality of Jõgeva in Jõgeva County .

Laiuse has 390 inhabitants (as of 2003). It is located on the 144 m high mountain of the same name, Laiuse mägi . The church consecrated to St. George was first mentioned in the 14th century. An Orthodox church dates from 1864 (currently vacant).
history
Laiuse was first mentioned as Laeghis in the early 15th century . As early as 1686, Reiner Brocmann's son , Reinerus Brocmann († 1704), and inspired by Bengt Gottfried Forselius, set up one of the first popular educational institutions for the rural population in Laiuse. Today's elementary school was founded in 1822. Laiuse owns the oldest public library in Estonia (first documented in 1849). The former castle of Laiuse (now ruins) is particularly interesting .
