Reiner Brocmann
Reiner Brocmann (* April 28 . Jul / 8. May 1609 greg. In Schwaan Graenzdorf Ksp, Mecklenburg-Schwerin , † November 29 jul. / 9. December 1647 greg. In Tallinn ) was a Baltic German pastor , translator and poet . He wrote the first poem in Estonian (published 1637).
life and work
Reiner Brocmann (also Brockman or Broocmann ) was pastor in Kadrina in what is now Lääne-Viru County from 1639 until his death . He also taught ancient Greek in Tallinn. Brocmann is also known as a translator of German hymns into Estonian.
First Estonian poem
Brocmann was particularly inspired by Martin Opitz 's book about Deutsche Poeterey . In 1637 Brocmann published the first wedding poem in Estonian. It is Alexandrians drafted a really awkward for Estonian meter . The poem is entitled Carmen Alexandrinum Esthonicum ad leges Opitij poeticas compositum . Three more Estonian-language poems by Brocmann followed during his lifetime.
Reiner Brocmann is buried today in the church of Kadrina.
reception
The Estonian writer in exile Herbert Salu wrote the novels "Lasnamäe lamburid" ( Lund 1978) and "Siiditee serval" (Lund 1986) about Brocmann's life .
