Jan Karel Huibert Nolet de Brauwere van Steeland (born January 23, 1815 in Rotterdam , † June 21, 1888 in Vilvoorde ) was a Dutch - Flemish poet.

Life

Nolet studied at the Catholic University of Leuven and then settled in Brussels as a private citizen. From 1849 he was a member of the local academy and was repeatedly elected president at the meetings of the language congress and language association. His first major poetry was Noami (Löwen 1840); it was followed by: Ambiorix (das. 1841; 2nd ed., Brüss. 1846), Dichtluimen (Löwen 1842), Ernst en boert (Brussels 1847), Zwart op wit (Amsterdam 1853), Het groote dietsche vaderland (Brussels 1857) and others, which are included in the complete edition of his poems (Amsterdam 1859, 2 vols., another volume 1871). His prose work Een reisje in het Noorden (Löwen 1843) is written with humor . Formerly an avid admirer and promoter of all German, after 1866 he turned into a bitter opponent of Prussia and Germany, as his speech given at the academy: Du pan-germanisme et de ses influences sur la littérature flamande (1868) proved. Collected (in the Oeuvres complètes , 1859–1884, 7 vols.) His earlier prose works (1873, 2 vols.) Appeared ; his more recent as: Poezij euproza (1877) and Poezij en lettercritiek (1884).
