Lajos Bokros (born June 26, 1954 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian politician of the former Hungarian Democratic Forum .

Life

Bokros studied economics at the Corvinus University in Budapest . As a university lecturer, he taught at the Central European University in Budapest. From 1991 to 1995 he was chairman of the Budapest Bank . From March 1, 1995 to February 29, 1996, Bokros was Minister of Finance in Hungary as the successor to László Békesi in the government of Gyula Horn . He was followed by Péter Medgyessy as Minister of Finance . From 2009 to 2014 Bokros was a member of the European Parliament , initially for the Hungarian Democratic Forum and after its dissolution in 2011 as a non-party member. In the Hungarian municipal elections in 2014, he ran in Budapest against the incumbent István Tarlós .

Bokros was a member of the EU Parliament's Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo .
