Lakalaka

Lakalaka are ceremonial group dances in Tonga that can involve several hundred people. A characteristic of the dances is that the dancers stand still most of the time and only take small steps to the side to the right and left while making movements with their arms. Both the dancers and an additional choir will sing.

Lakalakas were recognized by UNESCO in 2003 as Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity .
