Group dance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A group dance is a dance that is danced by three or more people together. Both same-sex and mixed groups of individuals, as well as groups of dance couples (partner dance) can be meant. There is a coordinated interaction between several people. This is in contrast to the concepts of single and couple dance .

Examples of group dances are Salsa Rueda , Sirtaki or Square Dance as well as all kinds of formation dance such as jazz dance , tap dance or standard , Latin and rock 'n' roll formations . There are also a number of group dances in folk dance , such as set dance or the northern German colorful dances .

In contrast to this, line dance is not a group dance, as the interpretation of the music is left to the individual dancers themselves. Nevertheless, people like to dance in groups, with a choreography forming the basis, but which can be varied within certain limits. Because of the possibility of the dancers, e.g. B. for demonstrations, to be included in a group choreography, the not entirely correct impression is sometimes given that it is a pure group dance.
