The Lake Barrington is a dam in the north of the Australian state of Tasmania .
The 20 km long reservoir is 40 km south of Devonport on the middle reaches of the Forth River .
construction
The dam was built in 1969 to create a reservoir for the Devils Gate Power Station . On the shore of the lake, an area of 183 hectares has been declared a state nature reserve.
rowing
Lake Barrington is a world-class rowing course . The 1990 World Rowing Championships , the annual Head-of-River Championships of the Tasmanian schools and various Australian rowing championships were held there. The latter took place here in 1984, 1987, 1990, 1994, 1997, 2003, 2006 and 2009. The next such competition is planned for 2014.
