The Lake Paradise is an artificial lake in the southeast of the Australian state of Queensland . It is located about 30 km northwest of the city of Biggend on the lower reaches of the Burnett River .

At the Paradise dam, which was completed in November 2005, a lake with 300 million m³ water content, 29.51 km² area and 38.2 m greatest depth was dammed up, which flooded the former gold rush settlement Paradise . The reservoir serves as a water reservoir for the nearby towns of Bundaberg and Childers and the surrounding country. The city of Biggend and its surroundings are not connected to the reservoir.

Over 400 jobs were created during the four-year construction and the new reservoir became one of the largest tourist attractions in the area. Artifacts and buildings from the ghost town of Paradise were removed before it was flooded. The exhibits can be admired today at the Big Legend Historical Society .

The Paradise Dam is intended to serve as a model for the government for the planned and much discussed Traveston Crossing Dam on the Mary River , some 100 km further southeast. A 2005 report by the World Wildlife Fund named Lake Paradise one of the six worst-planned reservoirs since the World Commission on Dams in 2000.
