The Lake Tennyson is a by glaciation incurred in the southeastern part of the mountain Marlborough District on the South Island of New Zealand .

Origin of name

The lake got its name in 1853 when its namesake, future Prime Minister of New Zealand Frederick Weld , saw it from a distance from a mountain top. Two years later he visited the lake on one of his expeditions. After whom he named the lake is not known. There were suspicions that the lake was named after a poet in England or after Bill Tennyson , a local ox driver.
