Lake Tuakitoto is a small lake in the south of the Otago region on the South Island of New Zealand . It is located in the northeast of Balclutha near the village of Kaitangata . It is the smallest of South Otago's three main lakes (the others are Lake Waihola and Lake Waipori ), and like them it is shallow. The lake drains into the Matau Branch of the Clutha River .
