Lambert from Grandson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lambert von Grandson was Bishop of Lausanne from approx. 1090 to 1097/98 .

Life

Lambert comes from the wealthy noble family of the Lords of Grandson in north-western Vaud . His father was Lambert, Lord of Grandson. Lambert became Bishop of Lausanne around 1090. In the conflict between Emperor and Pope, he was on the side of Emperor Henry IV. His consecration was carried out by the antipope Clement III. After he was accused of wasteful use of the goods of his diocese, he approached the Pope. This provoked the wrath of the emperor and probably led to the loss of the diocese in 1097/98. He is said to have lived as a hermit afterwards.
