Life

Cuno was the son of Ulrich, who bore the title of Count of Fenis and, according to tradition, is said to have been the progenitor of the Lords of Neuchâtel . His brother was Burkhard von Fenis , Bishop of Basel .

From 1097/98 to 1103 Cuno was Bischofelekt von Lausanne , his successor was elected in 1105.

He was the founder of the St. Johannsen Abbey near Gals ( Erlach district in the canton of Bern ). The construction of the church was started by him, but was only completed by his brother after his death. His brother Burkhard had Erlach Castle built nearby, with which the two brothers laid the foundation stone for what would later become the small town of Erlach .

The year of his death is unknown. But he must have died between 1103 and 1108. He was buried in front of the cross altar of the St. Johannsen collegiate church.
