Lambertus Peletier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lambertus "Bert" A. Peletier (* 1937 ) is a Dutch mathematician. He teaches and researches at the University of Leiden .

Peletier received his doctorate in 1967 under Lambertus Broer (1916–1991) at the TU Eindhoven (On a class of wave equations). He has been a professor at Leiden University since the 1970s.

He deals with differential equations, especially non-linear diffusion processes and higher-order differential equations such as the Swift-Hohenberg equation , which occurs in the theory of pattern formation. He also researches mathematical modeling in pharmacy and the transport of substances in plants.

Since 1989 he has been a member of the Academia Europaea . In 1999 he was elected a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences .
