Lampeter, Aberayron and New Quay Light Railway

Lampeter, Aberayron and New Quay Light Railway was a British railway company based in Cardiganshire , Wales .

According to the Light Railways Act , the company received on October 9, 1906 the concession to build a railway line from a branch near Lampeter to Aberaeron and to New Quay . In Lampeter there was a connection to the Carmarthen – Aberystwyth railway line .

Construction began on October 20, 1908. On April 10, 1911, freight traffic began on the 19-kilometer route between Lampeter and Aberayron. Passenger traffic started on May 12, 1911. Since no agreement was reached with the owners of the port of Aberaeron, the route could not be extended to the port. The planned route to New Quay was not realized either. It was operated by the Great Western Railway . The company became part of the Great Western Railway on January 1, 1923 by the Railways Act 1921 .

In 1951 the passenger traffic and on October 1, 1973 the freight traffic was stopped.
