Country Budissin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Land Budissin was the name of Upper Lusatia until the 15th century . The name was derived from the capital Bautzen , which was officially called Budissin until 1868 .

Synonymous with the country of Budissin, Upper Lusatia was also called the six-city country or six-country for short from the middle of the 14th century. This was due to the outstanding importance of the Upper Lusatian Six Cities Association.

Because of the different divisions of Upper Lusatia in the 13th and 14th centuries, the name Budissin was more and more restricted to the western half of the country, while the east was called Land Görlitz . Even after the reunification of the country, the Budissin and Görlitzer districts continued to be administrative units of Upper Lusatia, each with their own official governors and individual estates .
