The State Office for Security in Information Technology is a Bavarian authority. It was officially established when the LSI Establishment Act came into force on December 1, 2017. Bavaria is the first federal state with an independent IT security authority. When it was founded, the existing Bayern-CERT was integrated into the LSI by the State Office for Finance (LfF) and forms the core team. The state office is located in Nuremberg with the Bad Neustadt an der Saale and Würzburg branches . Around 200 IT security experts are expected to work at the LSI by 2020.

Legal basis

Part 2 of the Bavarian E-Government Act (BayEgovG) forms the legal basis of the LSI. The law regulates the tasks, target groups and responsibilities of the LSI. This is directly subordinate to the State Ministry of Finance, State Development and Homeland. In addition, the law contains regulations on data protection and data exchange with other authorities.

tasks

The core task of the LSI is to protect the state IT infrastructure - the BayernServer and the BayernNetz. The LSI will actively support and advise municipalities in specific security incidents. The LSI will also offer consulting services for the state administration, public companies and operators of critical infrastructures, as well as advise citizens and raise awareness of the topic of IT security.
