history

The institution was founded in 1868 by Friedrich August Hermann Voppel (1813–1885), psychiatrist and director of the state supply institution (“lunatic asylum”) at Colditz Castle , as an “agricole colony”.

From 1929 to 1944 Max Alwin Liebers was director of the institute, who was also director of the nearby Colditz state institute in 1938/39 . At the time of National Socialism , the house served as an intermediate facility for patients who were murdered in the Pirna-Sonnenstein and Brandenburg killing centers .

In 1942, the institution was re-profiled as a lung sanatorium with a psychiatric department and from then on was called Hainberg Lung Healing Center . From 1946 onwards, tuberculosis patients were admitted and treated .

On January 1st, 1999 the clinic was taken over by the Diakoniewerk Zschadrass.
