The State Institute for Statistics of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol (ASTAT) coordinates the official statistical activities in the Italian province of South Tyrol . The acronym ASTAT is the colloquial name A mt for Stat istics . The ASTAT represents the National Institute for Statistics ( ISTAT ) in South Tyrol. ASTAT was founded in 1980 and produces most of the data in the country. These data come from surveys by ASTAT, ISTAT or from external data sources. ASTAT also processes and publishes statistical information.

The State Institute for Statistics collects information by carrying out surveys itself, carrying out surveys for the ISTAT , or taking over data from external sources. Another task of the ASTAT is the definition of technical terms and the basic methods for the classification, collection and processing of data. It checks, processes and publishes statistical data. This can be done via the ASTAT website or via printed media. It also serves as a coordination center and link for the sources of statistical data in South Tyrol. Statistical models, forecasts and input / output tables are also produced by ASTAT. The ASTAT data is updated monthly, quarterly or annually and is broken down by province, district, municipality and sub-area of municipalities.
Legal
The ASTAT is independent of state politics. It complies with the European Statistics Code of Conduct (Regulation No. 223/2009). The tasks of the ASTAT are laid down in the implementing provisions of the Statute of Autonomy (Article 10 of the Decree of the President of the Republic No. 1017/1978) and in the Provincial Law No. 12/1996. Accordingly, the ASTAT coordinates and guarantees the activity of the national statistics. It is also the sole representative of ISTAT in the country. The responsibilities of ASTAT also include statistical surveys in the area of responsibility of South Tyrol as well as delegated state surveys. It is responsible for the state information system and the demoscopic observatory.

The ASTAT is divided into: Central area with IT, population statistics and business statistics. The ASTAT itself is headed by an alignment and coordination committee.
