In 2008, around 14,800 inpatients were treated in the hospital in the city of Neunkirchen. 810 employees are responsible for the 360 beds. There is also an unauthorized landing site for air ambulance .

history

The Neunkirchen hospital was opened in 1896 and is located in a building that was planned and constructed by the architect Eugen Sehnal .

It is the follow-up facility of the citizens' hospital in Seebensteiner Strasse, which existed until the end of the 19th century . The citizen hospital was actually a poor house and old people's home and not intended for the sick. For this reason, the municipality of Neunkirchen, which was later elevated to town, decided to build a hospital at the current location. Numerous sponsors, such as companies, banks or cooperatives from the entire district, supported the community to make the construction possible.

The construction took two years until it was opened for 60 patients on December 19. It received the status of the public hospital in Neunkirchen on November 6, 1897.

In 1913 a surgical department was created that also treated soldiers wounded during the First World War . An infection barrack was also set up. This could be replaced by a new building between 1926 and 1938. At the same time, a medical department with a laboratory and a kitchen were built. The patients were cared for by spiritual sisters of the Franciscan Order .

No further construction activity was possible during the Second World War and operations could only resume after the war under difficult conditions.

After the war, the city continuously expanded and modernized the hospital. An X-ray station was set up in 1953/1954. It was not until 1962 that it was also possible to employ an anesthetist, and two years later the accident department was opened. The administration of the hospital was set up in the former residential wing of the spiritual sisters.

In the following years, not only could the surgery be expanded, but a heart monitoring station and an intensive care unit were set up.

In the last two decades of the 20th century, the buildings were enlarged by adding additional floors so that the departments could also be enlarged. The kitchen was also adapted to the increasing demand. A separate CT and X-ray building was built. There has also been an emergency ambulance deployment center since 1989 .

A nursing school was set up in the staff residence, while the building of the former infection department was rented to the Gloggnitz state retirement home. Further modernizations, such as emergency power generators or hot water preparation, were carried out continuously.

The department for psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine was opened in March 2000, as well as orthopedics and accident care in 2003.

In 2008, the state of Lower Austria became the new owner and has since been managed by the Niederösterreichische Landeskliniken-Holding .

In 2009 it was announced that the hospital on the same site would be demolished and rebuilt. With an investment volume of around 100 to 120 million euros, this should come cheaper than renovation. The new building should be completed in 2014.

A new building has already been decided by the municipality of Neunkirchen. As early as 2002, the city planned it on the site of the former NSW screw factory . Since this area had to be partially cleared of contaminated sites and on the other hand there were some listed buildings, some parts of the hospital began to be rented there.

In the following planning, the new building was also planned on this site.

The takeover of the country feared the end of a new building. The city even had to pay project termination costs. The move to the completed new building will take place in November 2015.
