The Hollabrunn Regional Clinic is a hospital in Hollabrunn run by the Lower Austrian Regional Clinic Holding .

history

The establishment of a hospital in the district capital Hollabrunn took several attempts.

The first Hollabrunn “Spittel” already existed in the Middle Ages , but had little in common with a hospital in the modern sense. It was mainly used to accommodate sick and poor people and less to heal them.

In 1839, the poor house built in 1801 was expanded to include a "hospital" with around ten beds. Here, poor and sick craftsmen and servants also received medical care.

The first Hollabrunn hospital in the modern sense was opened in 1857, but three years later the “Public District Hospital Hollabrunn” was closed by the Lower Austrian Lieutenancy for lack of money.

In 1873, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary , the Sparkasse Hollabrunn donated 30,000 guilders, thus enabling the new construction of a hospital, which was named "Kaiser Franz Josefs-Spital" on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I.

Because of the large number of military personnel to be provided for during the First World War and a refugee camp, the western wing was built in 1917 by the Lower Austrian Lieutenancy.

Until the municipal council passed a resolution on June 23, 1986 to rebuild the hospital, which was suffering from lack of space, the operating theater and an infection department were rebuilt in the interwar period, and a nurses' house and a laboratory wing were built in the 1960s. The expansion of the east wing for the gynecological-obstetric department and the surgical department between 1971 and 1975 was the last major construction project at the old location.

The new hospital was built between 1987 and 1992, it was put into operation on July 1, 1992 and the official opening by Governor Erwin Pröll took place on November 9 of the same year. In autumn 1993 the hospital was expanded to include the Hollabrunn health and nursing school.

In 2001 a bust was erected in memory of the former hospital director Felix von Winiwarter .

On January 1st, 2005, the municipality of Hollabrunn transferred legal ownership of the hospital to the state of Lower Austria .
