As national coordinates in the are Geodesy the coordinates in a nationwide designated coordinate system.

Within geodesy, the science of measuring and mapping the earth's surface, the Lander survey works out a spatial reference system that clearly defines the position and height of all points. Cartesian coordinate systems that map smaller areas metrically are suitable.

Examples of country coordinates are

The first system was developed by Carl Friedrich Gauß and published by Louis Krüger in 1923. The second, Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) is a global coordinate system that levels the earth's surface in limited areas with the most favorable Mercator projection . Due to the small area, a single map projection from the Bessel ellipsoid is sufficient for the Swiss national coordinates .
