State protection directive

The state protection directive was a directive for state and border protection issued in the Weimar Republic on April 26, 1929 by the second Müller cabinet .

The state protection guidelines were related to the plan drawn up by the Reichswehr leadership in 1928/29 to triple the Reichswehr , the so-called A-Plan (installation plan), which came into force on April 1, 1930.

The directive stipulated that state and border protection was to be limited to the Prussian provinces east of the Oder . Any land protection measures west of the Oder should be reduced. The state government of Prussia , led by social democrats, supported state protection ( Braun-Heye Agreement 1927).

Together with the armament plans for the Reichswehr and Reichsmarine ( Schleicher program 1930), the measures to expand the state and border protection were a partial measure for the future development of the German armed forces. The restriction of state protection in the western parts of the Reich territory, on the other hand, was a deceit against France.
