The State Center for Health Promotion in Rhineland-Palatinate eV (LZG) is a non-profit association . It was founded in 1973 and is politically and religiously independent. The aim of the LZG is to promote a healthy lifestyle, to inform the population about health risks and how they can be avoided, and to promote the exchange between experts. The regional headquarters are in Mainz, the managing director is Matthias Krell.

tasks

One of the statutory tasks of the LZG as a central health-promoting institution in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate is to support the citizens of Rhineland-Palatinate in a healthy lifestyle. The LZG develops, plans and coordinates projects for health promotion and prevention and implements them regionally and nationwide. It works together with health care institutions and networks them with one another. It also offers advanced training for multipliers. It develops materials for health promotion, conducts public relations work in the service of prevention and thus ensures transparency and dissemination of health information.

To this end, the LZG works according to a basic structure based on three pillars. On the one hand, mass communication elements are used. These are brochures, leaflets, posters, documentation, health hotline, homepage, as well as press and public relations. Almost all publications are available to the population free of charge. Elements of personal communication in the work of the LZG are events with regional and supra-regional partners, model projects, campaigns, peer group projects , project advice and supervised exhibitions. The third pillar is made up of qualifying elements. These include specialist days, seminars and training courses, e-learning, quality assurance and work aids. The aim of these qualification offers and instructions for action is to support people, in particular in their function as multipliers, and to enable them to transport health promotion into their field of activity and life.

Focus

The LZG is divided into four main sections.

  • The department for health promotion in living environments is responsible for the topics of physical activity promotion, company health management, health promotion in schools and daycare centers, AIDS / STI prevention as well as education about organ donation.
  • The addiction prevention department includes projects on substance-related and behavioral addictions and coordinates addiction prevention work at the state level. His main focus is on supporting children from families with addiction problems, the prevention of gambling addiction and the conception of e-learning programs for addiction prevention.
  • The section on health and old age is primarily devoted to topics related to demographic change. This includes u. a. educating people about dementia and building regional networks that help improve the quality of life for people with dementia. The subject of depression is also part of the content of the presentation.
  • The department for health and social space development supports u. a. Municipalities in further developing domestic, outpatient, inpatient and other care structures. Part of the department is the RLP State Advice Center for New Living. It is available to citizens with questions about the planning and implementation of intergenerational or communal living, residential care communities or the WohnPunkt RLP project.

organization structure

A total of around 90 organizations and associations have come together in the LZG: contractual partners of the health system, professional associations responsible for health and education, educational and women's associations, health, rehabilitation and self-help organizations , government agencies, welfare associations and other associations and individual members.

The LZG consists of a voluntary board of directors with twelve members, the managing director and full-time employees. Health Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler is the chairwoman of the ten-member board of trustees .

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate supports and promotes the work of the LZG. It receives financial support mainly from funds from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labor, Health and Demography (MSAGD). The Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Education also supports the work of the LZG. Membership fees, donations and third-party funds are added to the budget.

history

On July 18, 1973, the State Center for Health Education in Rhineland-Palatinate eV (LZG) was entered in the register of associations at the Mainz District Court. In 1992, the general assembly decided to change its name to the State Center for Health Promotion in Rhineland-Palatinate eV (LZG). The renaming should make it clear that the LZG does not have an instructive function, but primarily serves to support independent health action.

Motto: "Shaping a healthy future"

The LZG works on the basis of a holistic understanding of health, as represented by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to this holistic view, prevention and health promotion are obliged to reduce disease-causing influences ( pathogenic risk factors ) on the one hand and to support the development of health-promoting opportunities and potentials (health-promoting protective factors) on the other. Health promotion in this sense is aimed at people of all age groups and phases of life. In doing so, the LZG relies on the expertise of science and the contractual partners in the healthcare sector.
