In Germany, during the Kipper and Wipper era until the late 18th century, coins were designated as land coins , which were minted not according to the valid imperial foot , but in a smaller alloy and which were only circulable in the territory of their minters. So it was a question of divisional coins .

Most of these were smaller denominations, but even Brandenburg 2/3 thalers were known as “Brandenb. Landmünz. ".

The term “Landmünze” should not be confused with the term “Landesmünzen”, which encompasses all coins of a country.
