The Donkens Gehölz conservation area is a conservation area in the Aurich district of the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG AUR 00004.
Description of the area
The protected landscape area, designated in 1966, covers an area of 0.12 square kilometers and is located east of the Meendemoorweg completely in the area of the municipality of Ihlow . The landscape protection area consists mainly of moderately to strongly degenerated residual raised bog areas in the area of the lightning lowlands . It is bushy and partly forested. In the opinion of the district of Aurich, these landscape components have "a special significance for the revitalization of the landscape".
Protection purpose
The general protection purpose is the “preservation of remaining moor relics to emphasize the reference to the history of the landscape within the area”, as well as in the area of species protection the “securing of retreat areas for remaining moor vegetation”.
