The landscape protection area Egelser Wald and its surroundings is a landscape protection area in the district of Aurich in the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG AUR 00007.

Description of the area

The protected landscape area, designated in 1966, covers an area of ​​8.7 square kilometers and is located north of the residential areas Sandkrug and Osterfeld, east of Egels. It largely consists of mixed forest areas that are subject to forestry use. In the Westermoor area there are purely agricultural areas (grassland, arable land) with intensive usage characteristics.

According to the findings of the district of Aurich, the area is a "coherent forest area with a local recreational function ( recreation through nature ) in the vicinity of the city of Aurich, a regeneration area for species and communities" as well as a "networking and buffering area to the Osteregeiser Moor."

Protection purpose

The general protection purpose is the "revitalization and structuring of the landscape as well as the preservation and restoration of its character."
