The area was the 2002 district council of Hochsauerlandkreises with the landscape plan Hoppecketal as a conservation area designated (LSG). The LSG consists of three sub-areas.

The landscape protection area open spaces around Gudenhagen was designated as one of 22 landscape protection areas of type B, outskirts, landscape character in the urban area of ​​Brilon.
