Description of the area

The landscape protection area, designated in 1972, covers an area of ​​2.72 square kilometers and is located on the northern outskirts of Emden on the Marienwehrer Meeden. It borders the Hieve and the Ems-Jade Canal . The conservation area consists largely of species-rich grassland in mostly traditional pasture management. Ditches and numerous small bodies of water divide the area, which has a particularly rich variety of meadow birds, amphibians and dragonflies.
