The landscape protection area Großes Meer and the surrounding area, also known as the Marienwehr landscape protection area , is a landscape protection area in the area of the independent city of Emden in the northwest of the state of Lower Saxony . It bears the number LSG EMD 00001. As the lower nature conservation authority, the city of Emden is responsible for the area.
Description of the area
The landscape protection area, designated in 1972, covers an area of 2.72 square kilometers and is located on the northern outskirts of Emden on the Marienwehrer Meeden. It borders the Hieve and the Ems-Jade Canal . The conservation area consists largely of species-rich grassland in mostly traditional pasture management. Ditches and numerous small bodies of water divide the area, which has a particularly rich variety of meadow birds, amphibians and dragonflies. The landscape character of Meede n also very kleinparzellierte by a, a more than 300 years almost unchanged hallway division coined.
