The Lenne-Niederung landscape protection area with an area of 145.48  hectares is located in the area of the independent city of Hagen in North Rhine-Westphalia . The landscape protection area (LSG) was designated in 1994 with the landscape plan of the city of Hagen by the city council of Hagen.

description

The LSG begins when the Lenne enters the area of the city of Hagen and goes to the Lenneaue Kabel nature reserve . The LSG includes the Lenne with floodplain areas on both sides of the river. Reclaimed wood as well as typical bank vegetation and oxbow lakes are also in the LSG. Most built-up areas of Hohenlimburg border the LSG. In the lower area, dykes delimit the LSG on the south side. The A 46 and the A 45 lead over bridges over the LSG. In the LSG there is also the white water park with a nationally important canoe slalom course. For the white water park, a separate canal was built next to the Lenne in Hohenlimburg, which gets its water from the Lenne.

Protection purpose

According to the landscape plan, the designation was made “to maintain and restore the efficiency of the natural balance, in particular by securing near-natural habitats, e.g. B. as a resting, feeding and wintering place for numerous endangered bird species (for migrants and visitors to eat next to the Ruhraue the most important area in the Hagen area) because of the diversity, uniqueness and beauty of the landscape, especially because of the occurrence of valuable woody stands with very old willows and because of its special importance as a recreational area close to the city for the entire Hagen area ”.
