The nature reserve Tal des Heimkes Siepen and adjacent extensive grassland with 16.1  hectares is located in the urban area of Sundern and in the Hochsauerland district . The area was designated in 1993 with the Sundern landscape plan by the district council of the Hochsauerlandkreis for the first time with the name landscape protection area grassland areas in the course of a Siepen between Weninghausen and Linnepe as a landscape protection area (LSG) with an area of 9.14 hectares. When the Sundern landscape plan was reorganized, the LSG was given a new name and was significantly enlarged. The LSG was designated as a type C landscape protection area , meadow valleys and significant extensive grassland. The LSG is located west of Linnepe . The LSG is part of the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park .

description

The LSG comprises grassland in the Heimkes Siepens valley and adjacent extensive grassland. Along the course of the stream, wooded banks stand tall, and the grassland divided by short hedges is partly dry and lean, partly fresh and humid and is used as (mowing) pasture. There are isolated old hud trees on the pastures.

According to the landscape plan there are occurrences of great gray shrike and red backed killer .

Protection purpose

The designation was made to secure and maintain the natural suitability for recreation and the efficiency of the natural balance against the diverse civilizational demands on nature and landscape. The LSG serves to supplement or buffer zone function of the more strictly protected parts of this planning area by protecting their surroundings from influences that could reduce the outstanding value of these nature reserves and protected objects and ensuring the coherence and implementation of the European nature reserve system Natura 2000 .

Legal regulations

As in the other type C landscape protection areas in the urban area, the LSG prohibits the construction of structures. Construction projects for horticulture, agriculture and forestry are exempt from the ban. The Lower Nature Conservation Authority can issue special permits for buildings of all kinds. As in the other type B landscape protection areas in Sundern, the LSG prohibits first afforestation and the creation of Christmas trees , ornamental branches and tree nursery cultures . Grassland and fallow grassland may not be converted into arable land or other uses.

Due to the occurrence of both types of strangler, the requirement was set: the grassland is to be grazed, preferably in accordance with the current management instructions "pasture" of the HSK's cultural landscape maintenance program.

Development measure: The field trees, hedge trees and hedge structures are to be preserved and replanted when they are removed.

Impairments to the LSG

In June 2018, an application was made to the Lower Nature Conservation Authority of the district by the Association for Nature and Bird Conservation in the Hochsauerlandkreis , as a larger area on the hilltop east of the Heimkes Siepen valley had turned into a firewood storage area. The area is also a legally protected biotope according to § 30 BNatSchG . The small bushes that used to stand in the area of the firewood storage area had disappeared, as had the red-backed red-backed red-backed shrimp. The condition of the area did not improve significantly until December 2019.
