Langenbergpark
The Langenbergpark is an urban park in Bocholt in the western Münsterland .
The park is located north of the city ring on Adenauerallee opposite the St. Georg Gymnasium and on Stenerner Weg opposite the Westmünsterland further education college . It covers an area of approximately 2 hectares . Part of the area of the later Langenbergpark was given to the city by the government of the Principality of Salm and the farmers of the parish of Bocholt as a cemetery for a fee of eight thalers. From January 1, 1807, the area served as a cemetery for around a hundred years. During this time, the cemetery was expanded twice until a new municipal cemetery was opened in 1908 on Blücherstrasse . A small cemetery with memorial stones has been preserved in the northeast corner. On the southern edge there is a playground and in the middle of the park the so-called Meckermann , a stone sculpture with an inscription. The park is known for its old stock of trees. In addition to large beech trees, there are also exotic trees, which a tree nature trail leads past.
After its redesign in 1937, the old cemetery was named Langenbergpark. It is named after the city's benefactor, Councilor Dr. Aloys Franz Bernhard van Langenberg . After the end of the Second World War , the park was referred to by the people of Bocholt as a “Soviet paradise” because the freed Soviet prisoners preferred to stay there in the summer of 1945.
Others
Twice recently there has been a festival of lights in Langenbergpark, where hundreds of candles were distributed on the lawns and music events are being held.
