Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold Reigers , also Reygers (born February 2, 1818 in Bocholt ; † March 1, 1906 ibid), was a German lawyer , judge and member of the Prussian National Assembly as well as local and regional historian for the Bocholt area and Westmünsterland .

Life

Reigers was born in Bocholt as the eldest of nine children of Johann Baptist Anton Reigers (1787–1869) and his wife Elisabeth Charlotte, née von Donop . He attended the Königlich Preußische Gymnasium in Coesfeld and studied law in Bonn and Heidelberg from 1836 to 1839 , where he passed the last legal examination in 1846. He then embarked on a judicial career in the Prussian judiciary , which initially led him to courts in Vreden and Stralsund until 1851 . When he was a higher regional court assessor in Vreden and the March Revolution occurred in 1848 , he ran for the constituency of Ahaus and became a member of the Prussian National Assembly . On February 15, 1855, he married Therese Carpe in Brilon , who gave birth to their daughter Maria in 1856, who died in the same year. For many years he worked as a district judge in Borken , where he retired in 1875.

Returning to his hometown Bocholt, he turned to the history of the city and region of Bocholt, which he researched primarily by studying documents from the city archive.
