Langgarter gate
The Langgarter Gate (Polish Brama Żuławska) was built in Langgartenstraße (Polish Długie Ogrody) in Danzig in 1628 by Hans Strackwitz .
History and architecture
The gate was located between the lion and ox bastions in the course of the earth walls and formed an important element of the Gdańsk fortifications. The earth walls were not abolished until the end of the nineteenth century.
The building was constructed from exposed brickwork with sandstone frames. Next to the middle passage there are two passages. There are stone medallions with the heads of Roman commanders above the passages.
The rooms in the gate are used by the Gdańsk museums for storage purposes.
