Langhammars is a place, a nature reserve and a Natura 2000 area on the Swedish island of Fårö . The place is located in Gotland in the province of Gotlands län (historical province: ( Swedish landskap ) Gotland ).

location

Langhammars is located on the west coast of Fårös, about 64 km northwest of Visby and 15 km north of Fårösund .

Nature reserve

North of Langhammars extends the Langhammarshammaren peninsula, which includes the nature reserve with the rocket, the stone beaches ( Swedish klapperstensalten or klapperstensstrand ) and a dune area that is partially forested with pines .

Medieval courtyards

A good kilometer south of Langhammars is one of Gotland's best-preserved medieval agricultural areas. The site includes at least eight suspected house foundations, several rubbish heaps, meadows ( Swedish vall or åkervall ) and stone fences ( Swedish stensträngar ). These were walls made of natural stone that were once about 0.8 m – 0.9 m high and were used to separate pastures and fields. The area was discovered in 1978 and excavations were carried out from 1997 to 2009. One house was in use from the 12th to the 15th centuries, while another has been dated to the 14th and 15th centuries. Oral records from the 19th century suggest that this may have been the previous location of Langhammar village, but Bondan's court may also have its origins here.
