Langmuir (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Langmuir (symbol: L ) is a physical unit of dose D in surface chemistry . It is named after Irving Langmuir who worked in the field. The Langmuir does not belong to the International System of Units and is not a legal unit in metrology in the EU .

Because the dose D in surface chemistry is a quantity of the dimension “pressure times time”, all products of a pressure unit and a time unit can be used as a unit of measurement. Langmuir is the special name for the product of the obsolete pressure unit Torr and the microsecond. With an adhesion coefficient of 1, 1 L roughly corresponds to covering a surface with a monolayer of the adsorbate .

Conversion: 1 L = 1 torr μs approximately 133 Pa 10 −6 s = 1.33 10 −6 mbar s
