Acmaeoderella form a genus within the subfamily Polycestinae in the family of jewel beetles (Buprestidae).

description

The beetles are cylindrical, their wing covers are fused together. A label is not recognizable. It is assumed that in the course of evolution the widened shield has grown together with the wing covers.

All species in this genus specialize in flowers . As beetles, they eat their leaves. In contrast to the genus Acmaeodera , some species from southern Europe can live and find food in dead and dry wood as well as in dry stems of grasses .

Systematics

About 50 species and subspecies are known in Europe.
