Sticking coefficient

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sticking coefficient is a term from surface physics / surface chemistry . It describes the probability that a particle, i.e. an atom or molecule that hits a surface , will stick to it, i.e. be adsorbed .

The sticking coefficient often decreases as the surface is covered, and when it is completely covered, it then becomes almost zero. The course of the adhesion coefficient over the degree of coverage can be explained with the model of the precursor state.
