from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lanrick Macgregor Monument is a memorial near the Scottish town of Deanston in the Stirling Council Area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The memorial was probably built in the first half of the 19th century. Presumably Evan John Murray MacGregor arranged the construction on the estate of Lanrick Castle , a seat of the MacGregors . In 2004 the monument was placed on the Register of Endangered Listed Buildings in Scotland. In 2008 his condition was classified as very bad and at the same time critical.

description

A tree is depicted on the family crest, which is why the memorial is modeled on a tree. The Lanrick Macgregor Monument shows a tree stump. This consists of unevenly processed layered masonry, which also shows allegedly sawed-off branch stumps. A round base plate with cornices rests on the stump . On top of this sits a rotunda with three Doric columns with pyramidal pedestals . The monument closes with an ornamented Doric dome.
