A lapa is a wooden construction that is common in southern Africa . It consists of a thatched roof that is supported on wooden posts. Typically, lapas have an open or semi-open area.
Similar to the pavilion , a lapa is used for various purposes. In southern Africa it is mainly used for animal or landscape observation, as well as for social purposes; for example for braai evenings on farms .
