Larry Gogan
Larry Gogan (* 6. May 1938 in Dublin , Ireland as Lorcan Gogan , † 7. January 2020 ) was an Irish radio - and television presenter .
Life
Almost nothing is known of his private life. His career began in the 1960s with the Irish national broadcaster RTÉ . When Radio 2 (now 2FM ) started in 1979, he was the first person whose words went over the airwaves; the first piece of music he played was Like Clockwork by the Boomtown Rats .
Even though he was retired, he still worked for 2FM. However, his daily program The Golden Hour was moved to a new slot at his own request. From the beginning of 2007 it was only broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays.
The main part of his program was the Just a Minute Quiz , in which the telephone candidates have to try to answer as many questions as possible within a minute. Since a lot of oldies were played in his show, it was a style break within 2FM's music program, which normally plays top 40 titles. Due to his long career as a radio host, he has received a large number of prizes and awards, including a. the award at the 5th Shanghai Radio Music Festival in 1988.
In addition to his work as a radio host, he has also hosted several television programs.
RTÉ has named a studio after him in his honor, which he commented with a laugh: "They normally only do it when you're dead."
