Lars Hesselholdt

Lars Hesselholdt (* 1959 ) is a Danish film director.

In 1984 he graduated from the National Film School in Copenhagen . He then worked as a screenwriter and director for Danish television, where he shot the documentary Land of the Bicycle , among other things . In 1995 he made his cinema debut, Belma , which received the Children's and Youth Film Prize from the Nordic Film Institute for its sensitive and differentiated portrayal of the refugee issue. The film received first prizes in Rimouski , Zlín and Lübeck .

In 1998 he directed the short film Henning the Hero (Helten Henning).

In 1999 the Danish-Italian production Katja und der Falke (original title: Falkehjerte) was released, which was filmed on original locations in Denmark and Italy. The children's film won first prizes at the Nordic Film Days in Lübeck, at the Cinekids in Amsterdam, the Italian festivals of Glorofilla and Giffoni, at the International Film Weekend in Würzburg and the children's film festivals in Toronto and Chicago.
