Lars Mathias Blank

Lars Mathias Blank (born November 27, 1969 in Hilden ) is a German engineer , biologist and holder of the chair for applied microbiology at RWTH Aachen University .

Career

Blank studied chemical engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund from 1990 to 1997 and biology at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1992 to 1997 . During his diploma thesis he worked in the field of metabolic engineering in the group of ET Papoutsakis at Northwestern University , IL, USA and on the biogenesis of the peroxisomes of yeast cells in the group of W.-H. Kunau at the Ruhr University Bochum. During his Ph.D. In LK Nielsen's group at the University of Queensland , Australia (1998 to 2002), Blank developed a continuous process for hyaluronic acid production using lactic acid bacteria. From 1999, Blank worked as a visiting researcher at Denmark's Technical University (DTU, Lyngby). From November 2004 to June 2011, Lars M. Blank headed the systems biology group at Andreas Schmid's biotechnology department at TU Dortmund University and was a researcher at the Leibniz Institute ISAS in Dortmund. In January 2010 he finished his habilitation. Since July 1, 2011, Blank has been Professor of Applied Microbiology at RWTH Aachen University.
