Las Coloradas is a small fishing village on the north coast of the Yucatán peninsula and belongs to the Municipio Río Lagartos . The inhabitants live from fishing and the salt pans , which are among the largest in this region.
The basins of the salt pans are also home to flamingos, which get their color from the food in the basins there.
