The load handling regulation (LasthandhabV) is a German regulation for the implementation of EU directives in occupational safety .

It was promulgated on December 10, 1996 as Article 2 of the “Regulation for the implementation of individual EC directives to the EC framework directive for occupational health and safety” of December 10, 1996 (Federal Law Gazette I, p. 1841).

The objective is to minimize the health risks, especially back problems, when handling loads manually.

The employer is obliged to take protective measures, in particular:

  • Consideration of the physical requirements of the employees
  • Regular training of employees
  • Risk assessment taking into account the appendix

A suitable tool for risk assessment when handling loads is the key feature method of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health .
