Latibulus argiolus is a Hymenoptera from the family of parasitic wasps (Ichneumonidae). The species is also known under the synonym Endurus argiolus .
Way of life
The species parasitizes on the Gallic field wasp ( Polistes dominula ). It lurks near the nest for an opportunity to penetrate and then lays an egg in a cell within a few seconds. So far there is no knowledge about the way of life of the larvae. The pupation takes place in a yellowish web within the cell. Two generations are formed per year: the first hatches in summer, while the second hibernates in a brown, resistant cocoon . The second generation pupa is able to pierce the cell cover by jerky movements. The pupated larva that has fallen to the ground then searches for a recess by rolling around and hibernates there.
