Demonstration of the LM fonts

Latin Modern (also: LM Fonts ) is a family of fonts originally developed for use with TeX ; however, the fonts can also be used independently of TeX. Latin Modern is a revised version of the well-known character sets from the Computer Modern family by Donald E. Knuth .

Latin Modern and cm-super can be distinguished by the differently designed sharp S , among other things .

properties

The Latin Modern fonts are PostScript Type 1 fonts that were created with the help of METAPOST and METATYPE1 . Most of the fonts are also available in the newer OpenType format.

In contrast to the cm-super fonts, the Latin Modern fonts only support a selection of draft sizes that are based on the original Knuth fonts.

The repertoire of Latin Modern fonts in September 2008 included the encodings OT1 , T1 (Cork) , QX (an encoding for the Baltic languages) and T5 (Vietnamese).

License

The Latin Modern fonts are free software . They are published under the GUST Font License , which legally corresponds to the LaTeX Project Public License (LPPL), Version 1.3c.
