Running flight

Pond claw in flight - this is the preform for flight, which is supported by violent wing movements

When running flight , including flight run called, is known in the ornithology a hybrid of running and flying of birds . The birds touch the surface of the earth or water with their feet and move their wings violently . This form of locomotion is typical for a number of railings , but it also occurs in other bird families . The pond claw uses this form of locomotion very often to flee from its predators in the dense bank vegetation. For very heavy water birds such as mute swans , running flight is a transition form to flying. They are too heavy to take off directly from the surface of the water and use running flight to reach the appropriate speed.

Also the food flight from petrels can be described as a running air as they paddle it with their wings on the water surface. For the Titicaca diver , running is even the fastest mode of locomotion, as this type has lost its ability to fly.
