In the case of a running light , the subsequent light sources in a chain of light sources take on a luminous state one after the other, so that the impression arises that the light source itself is moving.

Chases have a high attention factor because they are better perceived as a seemingly moving object. They are therefore used in advertising and in places that require special attention , e.g. B. in warning systems . Running lights of all kinds are often used as show effects in the entertainment industry , rides and fairground stalls.

In the beginning, simple running lights could be electromechanical, e.g. B. via motor-driven rollers, but purely electronic solutions soon established themselves. Today chases are mostly controlled by microprocessors . This means that far more varied and complex running light variants are possible in a very simple way.
